Graticule

Meridians: Complex curves.
Parallels: Complex curves.
Symmetry: About the central meridian and about the equator.

Distortion

Nowhere undistorted. Distortion is balanced throughout the map except for the poles, where it is extreme, predominately in the form of areal inflation.

Origin

Presented by Piotr Laskowski in 1991. The name derives from the optimization effort across the three metrics of angular deformation, areal inflation/deflation, and distance.
