Description

A perspective projection in which the far-side point of perspective can be specified.

Meridians: Straight lines radiating from the central pole in polar aspect.
Parallels: Concentric circles in polar aspect.

Similar projections

This projection can be parameterized to yield the AMS lunar projection, the Clarke twilight projection, the Fischer far-side perspective, the James far-side perspective, Gretschel, and others.

Origin

Philippe de la Hire, 1701, appears to have been the first to propose a perspective point on the far side of the globe. The mathematics are no different than vertical perspective, which, having been investigated since antiquity, is not credited to any one person.
