Origin

Formulation is due to Kōzō Kitada, 1957, who reconstructed an apparently equal-area projection he found used in maps in a 1927 German text, Grundzüge der allgemeinen Wirtschaftsgeographie, by Bruno Dietrich. The projection was probably developed by Karlheinz Wagner.
