Description

Cylindric projection to give a Mercator-like appearance without the excesses.

Graticule

Meridians: Straight, equally spaced lines 76.8% the length of the parallels.
Parallels: Straight, equally spaced lines.

Scale

Scale is correct along the 45°N/S parallels and constant along all parallels.

Distortion

Distortion is absent along the 45°N/S parallels and low in the surrounding band. The map’s distortion is dominated by flation.

Similar projections

A scaled down Miller is similar.

Proposed by James Gall in 1855.
