Meridians: Central meridian is a straight line 84.7% as long as the equator, with constant scale. If the entire projection were scaled by 1.172112 horizontally and 0.85316079 vertically, then the central meridian would have no distortion. Other meridians are complex curves concave toward the central meridian.
Parallels: Complex curves convex toward the straight equator. Perpendicular to the central meridian and equally spaced along it.
Poles: Points.
Symmetry: About the central meridian and the equator.
Scale
Nowhere correct.
Distortion
Nowhere low. However, changes in distortion are low across most of the map, leading to lower errors in distance than most global projections.
Similar projections
Gott elliptical projection is identical except for horizontal and vertical scaling.
