Graticule

Meridians: Central meridian is a straight line 61.7% as long as the equator. Other meridians are complex curves concave toward the central meridian.
Parallels: Complex curves convex toward the straight equator. Perpendicular to the central meridian and equally spaced along it.
Poles: Points.
Symmetry: About the central meridian and the equator.

Scale

Correct along central meridian.

Distortion

Low centrally, along the central meridian, and outward from the center along the equator but increasing along the equator with distance from the center until high distortion is reached by the edges.

Origin

Presented by J. Richard Gott in 2007 to globally minimize distance errors by their metric.
