Description
One of three conic-like projections proposed by Claudius Ptolemy.

Meridians: Circular arcs.
Parallels: Arcs of circles, equally spaced, bounded at the north by the latitude of Thule (63°) and south by the latitude of Meroe (16°).
Poles: Arcs of circles.
Similar projections
Bonne can be configured such that its middle portion approximates this projection.
Origin
Claudius Ptolemy circa 160 AD. The name homeotheric, meaning equal-area, was given by D’Avezac-Macaya in 1863. However, the projection is not strictly equal-area.
