Description

Cylindric projection with an appearance similar to cylindric equal-area, but less compression poleward.

Classifications

Graticule

Meridians: Straight, evenly spaced, 42.1% the length of the parallels.
Parallels: Straight, with spacing correct at the equator and decreasing with latitude.

Scale

Scale is correct along the equator and constant along all parallels.

Distortion

Free of distortion along the equator. The map’s distortion is predominately in the form of angular deformation.

Origin

Presented by A.A. Pavlov in 1956, based on the work by Urmayev that forces a chosen scale factor along three different parallels.
